BYU and Utah basketball fans and media set Twitter ablaze over Utah’s recent drop-out from next season’s game. This will be the first time since 1944 that the Cougars and Utes will not play against each other. The price to end the Holy War: a hefty $80,000 and two schools’ worth of upset students and alumni.
BYU-Utah meetings are always played at a higher temperature than most other games–to beg out over the intensity level is just so soft.

Cancelling the BYU/Utah basketball series is RIDICULOUS. #letsplaythegame

What does it take to cancel #BYU & Utah in basketball? World War 3? #BYUSN pic.twitter.com/zLjzqep2Kf

I kept the rivalry alive when Utah was too scared to schedule BYU in football. I guess I'll have do the same for basketball. #HolyWar

Utah backing out of the 2016 BYU vs. UofU basketball game out of fear of a spots injury gives new meaning to the name, " Running Utes."

The last time Utah and BYU took a break in basketball, Utah won the national championship in 1944. That's probably Chris Hill's reasoning.

Whether Larry was truly mortified and "shaking hands in a stunned state," as he said, Emery swing was a heated moment–not a crisis event.

Larry K.: There are thousands and thousands of people I feel sorry for that enjoyed the rivalry

Coach Krystkowiak needs to consult @uutah cops when he defines safety at @BYU and @UUtah. Fed reports say BYU safer. pic.twitter.com/t9kaBWS5Nb

Utah Utes cancel next season's basketball game with BYU. And here I thought I was out of reasons not to like Utes.

Count me as one of those disappointed & confused with the Utah/BYU B Ball series being cancelled. Basketball much different than Football
— Andrew Gorringe (@AGorringeScout) January 6, 2016
Utah's basketball coach is a joke.. You have no idea about the rivalry. Get over yourself! Hopefully the games are done for good now. #BYU

Pretty sure BYU will continue to exist without a Utah basketball game, but we'll have to wait and see to be sure. https://t.co/MwbnUkmPDk
